High-Paying, Rewarding Careers In Fitness

0
0

There are many different careers in fitness that are both rewarding and high-paying. And if you have a love of leading a healthy lifestyle and think you could teach people their way around a treadmill or two, why don’t you try and take advantage? Of course, when you are working in a field where you are responsible for other people’s health, it’s only right that you are rewarded accordingly. So, in this guide, we’re going to go through some of the highest-paying, rewarding, and best careers in fitness.
Physical Education Teacher
Gym teachers play a hugely important role in the health and fitness of the nation’s students. As a gym teacher, you will be responsible for laying out the curriculums and activities of students, making sure that skills and interests are matched with the individual. The career prospects are excellent - you get a good starting role of over $40,000, average at $50,000, and you could even become a head teacher if you show proficiency in other areas.
Physical Therapist
Physical therapists, in essence, help people’s bodies get better. You will be treating and planning rehabilitation for patients with all kinds of problems, from car crash victims through to those suffering from sports injuries. According to muscleandfitness.com/features/, the median salary for a physical therapist is almost $85,000, and the highest ten percent of people can earn well into six figures.

Wellness Professionals
There is an enormous range of well-paid jobs in the wellness field that is to do with fitness. Take yoga, as the perfect example. As pointed out at kayayogalifestyle.com/teacher-training/, you could take a yoga practice into many different fields. From yoga retreats for private individuals through to running lunchtime sessions for corporate businesses - your success is completely down to you and the path you want to take.
Health Educator
If you are bright enough to get through a Bachelor’s in education, public health, or community health, you can put your skills to excellent use as a Health Educator. Your role will be encouraging healthy behavior in society, including disease prevention. It’s an exciting position, which might involve running community workshops one day and hobnobbing with state and federal administrators the next to try and influence policy.
Athletic Trainer
Athletes are, in effect, superhumans that require an enormous amount of tuning, care, and attention. And, as an athletic trainer, you will be responsible for all of that - and a lot more besides. You could be working for professional sports teams, the military, or even local college associations as a coordinator, trainer, or director. The money’s good, too: ATs for the ATP Tour, for example, can earn around $90,000 a year.
Personal Trainer
Similar to a wellness practitioner, setting up as a personal trainer could earn you an unlimited income, depending on where you focus your business. Not only is a career as a PT rewarding, but if you grow your business and start employing others under a brand name, there are fortunes to be made. Even going it alone, you could earn up to $100,000 a year, depending on your client base and reputation.

Can You Really Change Your Body Shape?

0
0
We’ve all heard the advice. If you want a lean, toned body shape you must eat the correct diet and you have to exercise. But what if that isn’t working for you? What if there are other aspects of your body shape that you would like to change but can’t? It may be that there are some things that are outside of our control.

Age and changing body shape

Most people, especially women, find that their body shape changes as they age. This is partly because fat cells move around your body as you get older. In your twenties, the fat cells are closer to the surface, giving a toned and smooth appearance to your outline. By the time you get to your fifties, the fat cells are larger and centered around the internal organs. This causes the classic widening of the waist area that is sometimes referred to as ‘middle-age spread’.
As you age, your metabolism slows down and this can lead to further weight gain. In women, pregnancy can result in a loss of tissue in the breasts. Exercise and diet cannot alter this but breast implants are a solution.

Your hormone profile

Hormones have a big influence on your body shape. One hormone is produced by the thyroid gland and it controls your metabolism. The slower your metabolism, the fewer calories you burn and the harder it is to lose weight. This is determined by your genes.
As you age, your hormone profile alters. This affects where fat cells are stored and can change your body from a pear shape to an apple shape. This coincides with an increased risk for health conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. The effect is true for men as well as women and it is harder to build muscle as you get older so you need to spend longer in the gym!

Your choice of lifestyle

Obviously, if you select a sedentary lifestyle, you are more likely to put on weight and you will have a larger body shape. This is something that you can definitely control. However, the situation is a little more complicated than that.  Compared to 30 years ago, most of us are spending more time inside and are exposing ourselves less to sunlight. This effect is due to two reasons. Firstly, more occupations now involve staying inside all day and are typified by computer-based jobs. Secondly, people are concerned about exposure to sunlight causing skin cancer and tend to cover up more when they are outside.
Our bodies make vitamin D using sunlight and our lack of exposure to the sun has resulted in many people being deficient in this important nutrient. Research has shown that people who have a low level of vitamin D are more likely to have a higher body mass index (BMI) and a higher waist-to-hip ratio and a thickening around the middle.
So, whilst a large part of your body shape is governed by genetics and your age, there are plenty of things that you can do to change it.

Five Ways You Can Be The Perfect Pet Owner

0
0
Being a dog owner is a lot more responsibility than you might think it is. Not only do you have responsibility for an animal that’s relying almost completely on you for the next fifteen years, but it’s also important to make sure that your dog is as good a member of canine society as you are in everyday society! Here are some tips to help you out.

Give Them Plenty Of Exercise
First of all, it’s important to make sure that your dog gets plenty of exercise. That doesn’t just entail taking them for a walk every now and then - larger dogs will require a long walk of at least an hour twice a day, which is a really significant time commitment and something that you should consider when you’re deciding what sort of dog to adopt. If you don’t have as much time or if your mobility isn’t quite as good, why not go for a smaller dog like a terrier mix or a chihuahua? You’ll still need to make sure that they get out for plenty of exercise but it won’t be as taxing on you.

Feed Them The Right Food
When you’re buying dog food, make sure that you look at the list of ingredients on the side of the packet to ensure that the top ingredients are meat and vegetables. Cheaper food often tends to be bulked out with ingredients like corn syrup which really don’t offer any nutritional value. If in doubt, talk to the vet about what you should be buying.

Make Sure They’re Trained Well
All the best dog owners take their pets to obedience classes. These classes have a few different results - firstly, your dog will learn basic tips like how to listen to you, how to walk well alongside you, and some tricks like sitting and lying down. But almost more importantly, your pup will learn to socialise with other dogs, and you’ll learn to be a better dog owner. Picking up tips from the people who run the classes will help you when you’re training your dog at home.

Spend A Lot Of Time Together
If you want to build a strong bond with your dog, you need to spend a lot of time together, whether that’s at home, out on long walks, or simply taking your dog wherever you go - invest in some indestructible dog toys to keep your pup occupied when you’re busy. Look online for local dog park recommendations where you can take your dog to play outside, and for dog friendly cafes and restaurants where you can go to hang out with your dog owner friends. Make sure that when you’re with your dog, you focus your full attention on him or her.

Take Care Of Their Teeth

Finally, make sure that you take care of your dog’s teeth - purchase a doggy toothbrush and some toothpaste. If you have a puppy, it’ll probably be easy to get your dog used to the sensation of having his or her teeth brushed, but you might have to work a little harder with an older dog!

How To Regain Control In Your Life

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by life, there’s a strong likelihood that it’s tied in with your sense of control. For many people, as soon as you feel control of your time slipping through your fingers, almost everything can start to feel like a massive burden weighing you down. If everything you’re responsible for is beginning to feel like one big, chaotic mess, here are a few ways to regain some focus…
Have Limits on Making Trade-Offs
We all have chores that we have to do that aren’t exactly gripping. If you try your best to exercise good time management, but your never-ending to-do list is still overwhelming you, then you need to start putting limits on your trade-offs. Unless some routine task is absolutely essential, if it won’t bring you closer to doing something more inspiring and worthwhile in the long run, then you’ve got better things you could be doing. Before you enter conversations where you know you might come out with some kind of obligation, try to decide what you will and won’t do. All good negotiators have clear ideas about what they will and won’t give up long before the sit-down begins. If you find your plans are always going awry, then this is certainly a habit you should try to develop.
Trust Other People to Help
If you’re constantly feeling out of control due to the amount of things you have on your to-do list, you may in fact have the opposite problem. Professional life coaches such as Joe Ranieri are always talking to clients who have problems trusting those around them to help. Many who feel like they’re losing control of their lives, are in fact so hellbent on being in control that they can’t bear letting anyone else touch even the smallest of their responsibilities. If there’s way too much on your to-do list, try to think of anyone who’d be willing to take this work themselves, or at least help you with it. If you’re applying this to a professional environment, there may not be anyone who can do a certain job quite as well as you, but you may be able to help them learn to do it satisfactorily.
Establish your Priorities as a Habit
The most successful people in the world make a daily habit out of prioritizing the things they have to do, and planning their day out around those priorities. Set yourself a short window each morning, five to ten minutes will usually do, which you’ll invest solely in setting priorities for yourself, even if it’s not a work day. Think about the non-negotiable appointments you have to attend and anything that you want to complete over the course of the day. From there, you can make a priority list and plan out the time you do have more effectively. As your day goes on, make a point of stopping every now and then, and determining whether or not you’re sticking to your priorities. If you slip, don’t be too hard on yourself, and try again the next day.

A Job In Itself?

0
0
The activity of trying to get a job is often referred to as a job in itself. But what does that mean? Well, it means that there is so much work, effort, and emotion involved that it can feel like you are doing two jobs at once! The 9-5 one and a second one trying to get a new position. But while it is tough to get a new role in today's markets, there are somethings that you can do to make it easier. Read on to find out what they are.

pexels-photo.jpg

Know what you want
One thing that can definitely make looking for a new job much easier is knowing what you do, and you don't want. While this can sound pretty simple, it can, in fact, be very complicated. This is because you have all sorts of different factors to consider. Factors like ideal wage, working conditions, field of specialty, and levels of autonomy.

Wages are important, of course! As we all primarily work to earn money to live. But work is so much more than that, so your employment choices shouldn't just be based on financial factors like salary and benefits packages, but on other things as well. Remember you spend the majority of your life at work, so you want to be as happy there as possible.

With that in mind, your job search must entail looking at other factors as well. One of which is the level of autonomy you will have in your job.

Some folks prefer to be within a structured system. Where they know who is above and below them, and who they need to report to and impress on a daily basis. For other people being in this sort of system can be a nightmare, as they crave the autonomy to make their own decisions and take responsibility for entire projects.

matrix-1013611_1280.jpg

Another factor to consider in your preferences is the working environments that you would thrive best in. This can make a huge difference to how happy to are in your job and how well you succeed at it.

pexels-photo-380769.jpeg

For example, most folks tend to be either introverted or extroverted in personality. Introverts work better in quiet environments where they can be left alone to get on with things. But if you put an extrovert in this environment they are alike to feel very uncomfortable without regular social interaction to keep them energized.

So you can see that knowing what structure and working conditions you want can very much help you make your job hunt easier. As you can discount the time-consuming application process for roles that you know will not suit you.

Have a great Resume
Obviously having a great resume can help make your job hunt easier as well. This is because when your resume is good, it gets your details in front of more decision makers. Making it more likely you will be given an interview.

resume-1799953_1280.png

But what is a great resume? Well, it's one that is concise. The advice here is to ditch the four pages! It may seem like tough love, but nobody actually cares about that community project you did when you were in school. Unless you are applying for a post directly related to this field.

Make it clear as well, as there are an average of 250 applications for every post that you go for. So if the reviewer has to search for any information that isn't obvious, they are probably just not going to bother, and just skip on to the next person.

Lastly, make sure you check it. There are plenty of grammar and spelling checkers available free on the internet. So you really have no excuse for turning in a resume full of mistakes and errors. Check it before you send it. Else you can wreck your chances before you even have an interview.

Be savvy online
Next, you can make your job search easier by being savvy online. That means using a site like LinkedIn to show your strengths and positive endorsements from other professionals in your field.

linkedin-1007071_1280.jpg

It also means that you keep your social media looking as professional as possible. So no picture of drunken nights out, or controversial comments on show.

Get professional help
To make your job search even easier, it's also a good idea to seek professional help. There are plenty of agencies out there that make it their business to match the right client with the right role. After all, if they do a bad job, they don't get their commission do they?

That is why it can be useful to submit your resume to an agency, as they can work on your behalf to present you with jobs that you can apply for.

Partnering with an agency work particularly in your favor because you can learn more about a job you like the sounds of by getting them to go back to their client and get a more detail breakdown of the role’s description.

This can make things much simpler as you can then compare this detailed information to the factors you have set out for your ideal position. Making it easy to see whether it, is in fact, worth your time going through the application and interview process.

Try before you buy
Lastly, another way of making the job application process easier is trying before you buy. This is the idea that you never really know what a job is like until you do it for real.

That means if you can get some volunteer work, or an internship in the field that you want to be in, you will get a true taste as to whether the role will suit you. Or whether it's actually the idea that appeals more that the reality. Something that can actually happen quite a lot.

Also by doing unpaid work in your field of choice, not only do you get valuable experience that shows you're committed, and that you can add to your resume. But you can also make important connections. Allowing you to network, making it a lot easier to find a role when you are ready to commit to full-time work.

Five Ways To Build Up Your Savings

0
0
We all want to have some extra money in our accounts for several reasons; we’re saving for something big, we want an emergency fund, or we’re trying to give ourselves a financial safety net in case our circumstances change. There are two ways to go about this; you can work extra hours, take on more assignments, and hope that you’ll get paid enough overtime to give your bank balance a significant boost. Alternatively, you could make some cuts in your spending at home, allowing your income to grow a little more. Here are a few ways you could reduce your bills and build up your savings.
Cut down your energy bills
If your energy bills are the biggest expense in your household, the easiest way to start saving on this is to make your home environmentally friendly.  Start by switching to energy efficient LED bulbs, unplugging all appliances you’re not using, and insulating your home so you don’t need to turn up your thermostat as much. Doing these small things can reduce your energy consumption, saving you money on your bills each month and helping the environment. If you want to do a little more to help your energy bills, you can improve the insulation in your building, and upgrade to double-glazed windows; doing this will reduce the amount of heat that escapes your house by at least 25 percent, which will cut down on your use of the thermostat each winter. Finally, if you have enough in your budget for new appliances, you could shop around for an energy-efficient fridge. Refrigerator technology has made dramatic strides since the 1970s, so you’re actually wasting more money by not buying a new fridge. Any other eco-friendly appliances, such as dishwashers and washing machines, may seem expensive initially, but it is estimated that you will use a significantly less amount of energy with a green appliance than you will with its predecessor.
Shop smarter
Buying groceries on a budget is a struggle for a lot of people for various reasons. The best thing you can do to keep your food bills low is to find ways to reduce the amount of waste you throw away each week. Fortunately, there are several more ways to reduce your food bill each week, including shopping for cheaper store brands, buying non-perishables items in bulk, or sticking to a shopping list. You can also save money on food by avoiding takeaways, packing a lunch to take to work, or freezing your leftovers to eat them later. Wherever you can, take advantage of special offers, reduced food, or check out Coupon Sherpa - Coupons, Promo Codes & Printable Coupons and print out all the coupons you can find before you go out to the store. The best thing about online coupons is that you can find some for almost any store, so you can treat yourself to a discounted shopping spree on your next payday.
Transportation
With the price of gas constantly changing, your car is an unpredictable money pit, and that’s before you even factor in the monthly payments, insurance, and unexpected repairs. You can save money and still keep your car by only using it for long trips, such as family vacations. In the meantime, there are plenty of public transport options to suit your lifestyle. Monthly bus passes are more than worth their value if you take the bus to work every day. Carpooling with a colleague splits the cost of gas, and can reduce traffic if enough people get in on the scheme. Finally, if you’re going out for the night and don’t have a volunteer for designated driver, Uber can save you the trouble of standing out in the cold to call a cab.
Cut back on unnecessary luxuries
There are two different kinds of luxuries; there’s the necessary kind, which helps you to relax after work, provides you with an outlet for your stress, and which doesn’t cost too much money so cutting it out won’t make too much of a difference to your budget. Then there’s the unnecessary kind, which costs a lot of money, you barely use, and you might not even miss if you stopped doing it. For example, you might pay around $25 a month for your gym membership because you got a great deal, you wanted to improve your body shape, and it’s the only thing encouraging you to exercise. Unfortunately, if you don’t go to the gym at least three times a week, you’re usually not getting your money’s worth out of the membership. This is especially true when there are so many way to work out for free in the comfort of your home. Magazine subscriptions are another drain on your savings. Try cancelling all your subscriptions and only renew the ones you actually find yourself missing, or just buy the occasional issue when you see it in the stores.
DIY as much as you can
Sometimes the best way to save money is by doing little things by yourself. When things break around the house, try doing your own home repairs; blocked sinks, leaky faucets, and holes in the wall should be easy enough for any novice to handle, but you should remember to call a professional if things appear to be above your level of expertise.
Another form of DIY you can adopt is making home remedies for minor illnesses instead of going to the pharmacist for OTC medication, or save money on expensive cleaning products by simply making your own at home using vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda. There are even a few recipes for home beauty products, so you could treat yourself to a spa day at a tiny fraction of the price. Each remedy only requires things you’d put on your grocery list.
Finally, if you’re handy with a needle, or you’re lucky enough to have a sewing machine, you can prolong the life of your wardrobe by repairing your old clothes instead of always buying new ones.

What Not To Wear To A Job Interview

0

pexels-photo-429248.jpeg

When it comes to job interviews nowadays, wow, the pressure is more intense than ever. Not only do last years figures say that just 2% of applicants get to the interview stage, there are also more candidates applying for each role that we’ve ever seen. What this means is, just one wrong move can completely blow your chances of getting the job you worked so hard to get. This includes wearing the wrong thing.
The worst thing you could find out after not getting the job is that, while your resume and experience were impressive, your appearance cost you the role. That is why we have come up with a list of the worst things you could wear to a job interview.

Badly Fitted Clothes
There are a time and a place to wear oversized and comfortable clothes, such as when you are wondering what to wear on a long distance flight, but not in a job interview. The same with wearing clothes that are too tight or too small. Wearing ill-fitting clothes won’t just look bad, though, it will also affect your confidence. If you don’t feel comfortable then it will project onto how you perform in the interview. We can’t stress this enough; if you have an interview coming up, go and out splash a little on an outfit that fits.
Being Underdressed Is Bad
We get it, every job requires a different outfit. It could be your job interview is a creative digital agency and everyone there wears casual clothes and you want to fit in. Dressing down, however, isn’t worth the risk. By all means, dress how they do once you’ve got the job, but when it comes to the interview itself, it is always worth dressing too smart than it is too casual. Oh and always take the conservative option if you aren’t sure about colors or something.
Too Many Accessories
There is nothing wrong with wearing some understated jewelry. Diamond pendant necklace or stud earrings, the kind of thing you would find on the Whiteflash store here are the sorts of things you can wear because it can add to your style and class and professionalism. But making a statement with your jewelry is a no go; a job interview just isn’t the place to be doing that. You may feel like something is missing from your outfit, but it is better to play it safe than take a risk on something that could go against you.
Items That Distract

This can sometimes be a tough one because you want to stand out from the other people that are interviewing, but you don’t want to do over and end up distracting the interviewer. As such, we urge you to always err on the side of caution. If you were meant to stand out you’d do it with your personality, resume and experience, not with your outfit and like we said earlier, there is nothing worse than knowing you lost the job because your neon high heels and low-cut shirt were distracting. This means toning down your outfits, your makeup, and your colors. Basically nothing too trendy.

Seeing Sights To Behold On Every Vacation

Around the world, there are hundreds of amazing and awe-inspiring sights for you to sink your teeth into. Most people have a bucket list. And, this sort of list is usually filled with these worldly treasures. Unfortunately, though, too few people actually live out their travel dreams. Instead, opting for breaks centered around relaxation. This is a shame, though, because it doesn’t have to be this way. There are plenty of ways to see the parts of the world you’ve always dreamed about. To help you out with this, this post will be going through three of the World’s most spectacular sights. So, you can get started with seeing them.

Gray Concrete Structures Surrounded by Fogs

Imagine spending evenings surrounded by rainforests and mountains. A feeling of nature is in the air and the adventurer's spirit behind you. But, where are you going? The answer is Peru. There are loads of reasons to visit this South American paradise. But, too few people miss out of spectacles like the famous Machu Picchu. Along with places like this, Peru is home to some of the few remaining forests in the world. And, it’s ecosystem can’t be beaten. When you’re looking for somewhere to stay, you don’t have to look far. The country is home to a very nice Marriott hotel, called El Convento Cusco. This gives you a chance to soak up some luxury while also seeing some of the most breathtaking sights in the world.

River Surrounded by Green Trees

Our next location is the biggest river in North America; The Columbia River. For a lot of people, this venue could be right on their doorstep; but, they may have never seen it. But, with a natural wonder like this, you have to make some time to see it at least once in your life. The river cuts through a large part of the continent. But, at it’s largest, you’ll want to visit Oregon. This homely state is home to loads more than just this river, too. For speedy access to the river, booking a room with Comfort Suites Columbia River hotel could be your best option. Like the Marriott in Peru, a lot of people will find the right balance of luxury and adventure when they choose a hotel like this.

architecture, bungalows, daylight

Finally, it’s time to go somewhere a little different. This trip is definitely for the more adventurous out there. Mount Fuji is the largest mountain Japan has to offer. Surrounded by rainforests and lakes, the landscape in this area is stunning. And, when you’re looking for somewhere to stay, the Mount Fuji hotel has you covered. With a bath house supplied by the local hot springs, this venue will satisfy the needs of a lot of people. While in Japan, it’s also worth visiting one of their cities. These places are very different from the West. And, this makes it a very interesting country to see.

Hopefully, this will give you a good idea of what needs to be done to get the ball rolling on your next vacation. Most people don’t end up ticking most of the things on their bucket list. But, you only get one chance to do it. So, it’s worth doing everything you can to see everything you can.

Your Dog’s Diet: The Dos and Don’ts

5325671482_445c460a5a_b.jpg

Like us human beings, dogs need to get the right nutrition in their diets in order to live long and reduce trips to the vets. Here are a few of the rules when it comes to feeding your hound.

Be careful of human foods

Dogs will eat most things, even foods that aren’t healthy for them. Some human foods such as sausages and carrots and potatoes won’t do your pet any harm, although should only be an occasional treats. Other foods such as chocolates, onions and grapes can be toxic and worth researching. Feeding at the dinner table should be prohibited as long as possible as it will prevent dogs from begging during dinner time.

DO: Feed your dogs human food as rewards
DON’T: Feed toxic foods, feed from plate at the dinner table

Protect your canine’s canines

Your dog’s dental hygiene is important.Dental chews for dogs are a food that cleans their teeth as they chew. Bones can also help them to clean their teeth. You can also brush your dog’s teeth. However, use only specialist dog toothpaste when doing this – human toothpaste contains fluoride, which is poisonous for your canine companion.

DO: feed your dog chew toys, brush your dog’s teeth
DON’T: use human toothpaste

Keep your hound hydrated

Your dog needs to drink lots of water throughout the day. Wet foods can help them get their daily amount of liquid. If your dog is refusing to drink water they may be ill and you may want to see a vet. It’s important to regularly clean dog bowls and replace water just as you’d clean your own crockery. Many owners do not clean their dog’s bowls and this can make them sick. Use hot soapy water and scrub the bowl clean or place in a dishwasher. As with foods, avoid letting them lap up certain drinks such as alcoholic drinks and caffeine based drinks.

DO: clean dog bowls and replace water often
DON’T: let them drink alcohol or caffeine based drinks
Be wary of fad diets

Just as there are many nonsense fad diets for human beings, there are many for dogs. Such diets you may hear about include ‘grain-free’ and ‘all raw’, most of which are based on hype and have no scientific proof of benefits behind them. You can try these diets if your pet is overweight or has an intolerance, but otherwise you may as well leave them alone. Research on the web thoroughly before following a diet.

DO: follow a diet if your dog is overweight or has a food intolerance
DON’T: feel your dog has to follow a diet to live more healthily

Moving To Australia? Top Tips That Will Help

0

Moving to Australia can often be a dream for many people at some stage in their lives. It might be to work out there, or just to experience a different lifestyle. It may be something that always remains a dream, or it might become a reality for you. However, there is much to think about when it comes to moving to another country, especially one that is 10,000 miles away. You need to ensure that you have planned every part of the move. With that in mind here are some top tips to help.

woman-hand-smartphone-laptop-2.jpg

Have you got the right visas and documents?
Before traveling to a country for a longer period of time, it’s essential to make sure you have the right visas for your trip and stay. If you are unsure about the process then looking online will be able to highlight the best course of action for you and your intentions.

Get plenty of quotes for removals
The moving process can be tricky, so it’s vital to think about how you want to go about it. You could consider just packing up your belongings and starts fresh over there. Or you may want to take your furniture with you to give you a helping start when you land and find a place to live. Whatever you decide to do, make sure that you get plenty of quotes and physically have someone to come and value your belongings. Much of the quotation is based on insurance value as well as the service your require. You also need to accept that the packing will need to be done by the company you employ. This avoids any issues during immigration from this country and into Australia.

Consider job opportunities over there
There are plenty of opportunities for work in Australia, especially if you have skills and qualifications. Some people consider working over there for mining opportunities Western Australia has. This is when you may want to consider a fly in fly out option where you can work in some of the more secluded areas while still having your family in a town or city. There is plenty of fifo support if this option is for you. Other opportunities include midwives and medical professions, teachers and engineers.

melbourne-293445_960_720.jpg

Where do you want to live?
One of the biggest decisions to make is where you will live once you arrive. Much of your visa application and job search will depend on this decision. Some of the most popular places would be Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne. Melbourne happens to be voted as one of the most livable cities in the world.

Have you got children to consider?
Finally, you may also want to consider your children and any other family members who are coming with you. This will help you decide on the best location and route for you to emigrate to Australia. There are schools to think about as well as living in close proximity to local amenities.

I hope this helps you if you find yourself looking to move abroad to Australia.

Pest Problems In Poorly Pets

0
0
Our pets are great things that bring smiles to our faces even in the darkest of days - however, if there is one thing that they are good at - it is getting their snouts, paws, and claws in places they shouldn't be. We know not to eat certain things, drink dirty water - but our pets don't seem to have this knowledge. Maybe we gained it through evolution, who knows? We can keep ourselves safe, and perform certain actions to keep ourselves healthy, but it doesn't seem like our pets can do that! They can bark, scratch and scream to protect from physical threats, but they aren't the type to look after their guts or digestives systems. In fact, pets have a pretty hard time as it protecting themselves from pests; big and small.

Our pets, whether you want to think about it or not, can suffer from external threats and internal infestations due to their actions and the consequences of those actions. They don't necessarily need to be naughty to get infected - or suffer from the bite of pests.

One of the common pest problems that a pet can face is a flea infestation. Fleas find solace in the thick and dense coats of pets - but they are easy to spot, you'll simply notice your pet itching and scratching intensely and regularly, but you'll also be able to see black specks.in the coat of your pet. You should ensure that you seek the best flea treatment to ensure that not only are the fleas eradicated from the fur of your bet, but to ensure that the pet doesn't suffer any repeat infestations in the future. Unfortunately, a flea infestation can just come naturally - from your pet wondering around the garden - what you need to do is be prepared to spot the infestation, treat it and protect the pet with certain medicines in the future to prevent it from recurring.

Internal parasites and pests can be major issues for pets, and they are common - unfortunately. They can be picked up from the ingestion of moldy and stale food and will breed and reproduce inside of your pet. It's a disgusting thought for an owner to think about so how do you think the poor pooch feels? There are a wide range of internal parasites that can affect pets of all kinds, but the most common is tapeworm - a disgusting parasite that we can also contract from our pets if we are not careful with washing our hands! If you notice a change in eating habits, get to the vets right away and always, always ensure that your pet eats fresh food and drinks clean water.

Our pets don't look after their health - dogs love chocolate even though certain ingredients within chocolate like cocoa are fatal. This means that they cannot be trusted and are not independent at all. They need your help in all aspects of life - and especially with their health and safety. Be a responsible pet owner and keep an eye out for harmful pests.

Essential Commands To Teach Your Puppy

0
0
Puppies are young and full of energy. On the upside, this means they get up to some adorable, hilarious antics. On the downside, this makes them very naughty at times! By getting obedience training out of the way as soon as possible, you’ll prevent any more serious behavior issues in later life, and set them up for years of positive social interaction with people and other animals. Here are a few essential commands to teach them.

Image from Pixabay
Sit
This is the most well-known obedience command for a reason: it’s one of the easiest ones to teach, and by far the best one to start their obedience training with. All you need are some tasty treats for dogs, and a bit of patience. Start by holding a treat in front of your dog’s nose, then slowly move your hand up, getting their eyes to follow the treat and their bottom to lower. If they don’t sit down on their own accord, then give their rear end a gentle, encouraging push. Once they’re sitting down, say “sit” clearly, give them the treat and then shower them in affection. Once they’ve got it mastered, start reinforcing it through repetition, asking them to “sit” several times through the day.
Down
This can be a little tougher to teach to a dog, especially in headstrong and independent breeds such as Dachshunds. This is because you’re trying to get them to adopt a submissive position. You can help by keeping the training relaxed and light, especially if you think your dog is a has a nervous temperament. Pick out a particularly pungent-smelling treat, and hold it in a closed hand. Bring it up near their snout, then, when they begin sniffing it, lower it to the floor so that he or she follows it. Next, slide your hand along the ground towards you. This should encourage their body to follow their lowered head. Once he’s in position, say “down” clearly, let them have the treat, and give them some other sign of affection. In the process, there’s a chance that your puppy will suddenly try to sit up, or lunge for the treat. It’s important to curb this kind of bad behavior when they’re young. When they do it, take your hand away, and give a firm “no”. Try to avoid pushing them down though; you want them to learn for themselves.
Leave It
This can be one of the most important commands to teach a dog, as you can use it to keep them safe when they come across things that are interesting, but possibly dangerous on the ground. For this, you should hold a treat in both hands. Let them try to get at one of them, saying “leave it”. When they lick, sniff and try to paw at it, ignore their behavior completely. Once they give up, give them the treat in the other hand. You should repeat this until they begin to leave the first treat alone as soon as you tell them to “leave it”. From there, try it with a few other things your pup will investigate.

So, you’ve just graduated from college and are all ready to begin your life in the professional work! But is it really that easy? Now that the economy is going through a tough time and there is a lot of uncertainty in the job market, it is a lot harder for new college grads to bag the job of their dreams.

Even though there is a lot standing in your way, getting the perfect job isn’t completely impossible. You’ve just got to be prepared to work that little bit harder. Here are some job hunt hacks that should help you succeed.

Move To The Jobs
Do you currently live in an area that doesn’t have a good job market at the minute? Well, if so, you will probably be much better off moving to a bigger town or city. There will be a lot more job openings in big cities as there will be a lot more companies and businesses based there. You might even find it advantageous to move abroad to a country that has a thriving job market! So, if you ever find that you are struggling to find jobs that suit you in your area, don’t be scared to pack up and move. It will certainly pay off in the long run!
Customize Your Resume
Rather than creating a one-size-fits-all resume, you should write a completely different one for each job you apply for. If you don’t have time to do this yourself, you could always enlist the help of professional resume writers who will be able to take care of each specific resume. The benefit of customized resumes is that you can make all the necessary skills and knowledge for the specific job stand out.

Work On Your Work Experience
These days, employers are looking for practical work experience just as much as skills and knowledge. So, if you don’t already have some work experience on your resume, you need to get some organized as soon as possible. The best way to do this is to contact companies and organizations directly to see if they offer any work placements or internships. Unfortunately, these places are often unpaid so you will need to also figure out how you can support yourself.

Practice Your Interview Technique
Even if your resume is up to scratch, there is no way you are going to get a job if you always flunk the interview. So, it’s necessary to work on your interview skills and technique to ensure that this doesn’t bring you down. You will find it really useful to roleplay with a friend or relative. Get them to ask you questions as if they are the interviewer. This will give you an idea of the type of answers you should prepare, and it will also help you control your nerves on the big day!

Finding a job is certainly a difficult task these days. Hopefully, all of these tips will make it a bit more manageable for you when you are straight out of college!

Tips To Help Your Pet Settle In When You Move

Having a pet can be a great blessing. Whether you have children or not, you can often find that your cat or dog feels like your baby. So much so, they’re often your first or last child! And when this is the case, they’re going to be just as integral to your everyday lives as anyone else in the family. You care for them, you look after them, you love them; just as you would a child. So when life changes come around, you have to make sure that you think about your pets during the process, just as you would your child.

And there’s no exception to this when it comes to moving house. We all know that moving can be one of the most stressful things you can do in life. Having to get everything you own together, pack it all up, and then move it and unpack it again someplace new, can be super difficult to take on - especially in a short space of time. It can also be quite unsettling. Moving is something that young children don’t always understand, because leaving their home can feel alien to them. It’s the same for pets too. So if you want to make sure that your cat or dog settles in well when you move, here’s what you need to do.

Plan Ahead
Whenever you move house, it’s always going to help you if you can try and plan ahead as much as possible. This can often ensure that you keep any stress to a minimum. It’s going to take you awhile to get everything sorted, so you really do need to give yourself as much time as possible. And when you have your pet to think about, you definitely don’t want to be leaving anything until the last minute. You need to be as organized as possible, particularly with their bits and pieces, so planning ahead is really going to help you here.

Stay Calm
If you’re able to nail that last point, then you’re definitely going to find this stage much easier, and it can be quite important. Your pets will pick up on your stress, and it is then likely to stress them out too; which is something you really need to avoid during the move. So these tips to help you stay calm should help you here. You have to be as relaxed as you can be during this, to keep your pets calm too.

via

Stick To Their Normal Routine
At the same time, you really need to make sure that you’re staying on top of their usual routine as much as you can. As you will know, pets are often very accustomed to their routine. So when you start throwing things out, they can get restless and stressed. Be sure to keep their feeding times as standard, as well as walks for the dog, and let your cat out if you tend to do this at the same time each day.

Talk To Them
Next, you should think about talking to your pets when you can. It’s smart to talk to your pets just in general, but during potentially stressful moments and events, you should definitely think about doing this more often. Talk them through the move and reassure them too. It sounds crazy, but it works!

Pack Their Things Carefully
As you’re packing, you also need to ensure that you’re packing up their things carefully too. And this not only includes their bed and toys, but things like their Pet-Lock cat flea medicine and dog treatments especially. You need to make sure you have things like this to hand for when you get to the new place so that you can continue on with their normal routine right away. You will also need to help settle them in well, so be sure you have everything you need.

Change Their Collar
On your moving day, you’re going to need to change your cat or dogs collar, if they wear one. Because you need to make sure that you put their new address details on there. At the same time, you should also update the details on their microchip so that they’re also correct now too.

Comfort Them On The Journey
Then, on the journey to the new place, be sure to comfort them the entire way. Even if you have them in a pet carrier, make sure that they’re happy and contented. Cuddle them if you can and make sure they have their toys with them. This part can feel like the worst if they are stressed out, so be sure to keep them calm where you can.

Get Their Stuff Settled In
When you get to your new house, your first job is going to be to ensure that they are settled in happily. Just like you would get your kids rooms’ set up first, you need to do the same for your pet. Their bed and toys are familiar to them, and they will have their scent, so these are things that are going to help them to settle in well.

Keep Them In
When it comes to your cat, you need to make sure that you keep them in for a period of at least two weeks. If you want your cat to be happy and healthy, their environment is healthy. They need to realize that this is their new place, and they have to get acquainted before they explore outside, otherwise, they may try to go back to your old home, or even get lost. So this step is essential.

Be With Them
And finally, during those first few days and weeks, you’re going to want to be extra sensitive to them. If you want them to settle in well, it’s essential that you comfort them and give them lots of fuss. You need to reassure them that although things have changed, they are still safe - and that this is their new home. If you can take time off work to be with them, that would be even better! But in general, you just have to keep them calm and let them know that you’re there.

Women In STEM: Overcoming The Backlash

0
0

It’s been a few months now since a Google engineer was fired for distributing a memo in which he, essentially, claimed that women are not suited to the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) field. The memo he produced, which cited a number of scientific studies, has created an endless litany of thinkpieces both agreeing and disagreeing with the conclusions that James Damore drew. In fact, the authors of many of the studies he cited have outright said that Damore was incorrect in his conclusions.

Nevertheless, the leaked memo helped to ignite a debate. It has been known for years that the figures for women working in STEM are pretty terrible, especially in technology and engineering. As a result, many companies have instituted policies that allow them to encourage women into these fields-- sometimes in the form of positive discrimination, and sometimes through offering additional support.

Depressingly, there has been a backlash against such hiring policies-- James Damore’s incorrect memo is just the latest in a long line of argument against these policies. As a result, the idea of being a woman working in the STEM fields can be outright terrifying. This is then worsened when stories are reported of women being harassed when working in STEM environments. No one can blame women from wanting to avoid such a volatile field, though this will just worsen the problem.

If you have considered maths or science for your career, are contemplating studying for an online engineering MBA, or want to be the next tech wiz-- then here are a few things you need to know.

#1 - The Science Is Flawed
Studies are incredibly useful, but studies that conclude that women don’t like STEM fields for “gender based reasons” -- as Damore insisted -- are inherently flawed.

Why? Because they’re a generalization. If you have an interest in STEM, then you have already proved that these studies cannot cover the exact picture. Sure, it may be possible that women as a whole don’t like STEM, but this is a generalization that doesn’t apply to everyone. There are no gender-based reasons that you can’t flourish working in a STEM field.

#2 - The Support Is There
Thankfully, the vast majority of people see huge problems when they see the figures of women working in STEM, and they see this is an issue that needs to be rectified. Literally thousands of support networks, graduate schemes, and job incentives have been created to encourage women to pursue STEM careers. If you want to work in one of the STEM fields, then you will be the benefit of these support systems.

#3 - STEM Careers Offer A Viable Working Life
STEM careers are among the most lucrative in the jobs market; perhaps this is why men are so keen to rubbish the idea of women working in STEM-- they don’t much want to share the wealth.

If you have an interest in a STEM field, then there’s a high chance that someone will pay you handsomely to work in that field-- not because you’re a woman, but because you’re good at what you do. STEM careers also offer plenty of opportunity for progression, and are far more futureproof than the majority of work in the current marketplace. Even without the gender debate, STEM careers are a plain good choice for anyone contemplating their future employment prospects.

In Conclusion
If you want to switch careers or study a STEM subject, then go for it. Ignore the vocal minority who argue the issue and do what works for you. If enough women do this, in time, the statistics will be far more pleasant to read.

Following Your Star: 4 Things You Know If You Want To Try and Break LA

Most of us have dabbled in acting at some point in our lives, whether it’s a bit part in the school play, a brief walk on in a movie shot in your hometown or a membership of the drama society while in college. There are some, however, for whom acting is an all consuming passion. The opportunity to explore the world they live in through dramatic performance is a noble goal, but it’s one that has sent many a would-be star down a dark and dangerous path.

For nascent actors, Los Angeles is a magnet that calls to them with promises of opportunity and success, but for some the Hollywood Dream can become a nightmare. Young actors who step off the plane at LAX are often vulnerable to exploitation from cynical studio executives (or, worse, people pretending to be studio executives). Young women are particularly vulnerable. Just look at all the actresses who’ve come forward in the Weinstein scandal and you’ll see a damning portrait of the exploitation of talented young women who wanted a shot at stardom.

If you want to try and break LA here are some important things to bear in mind…

You need to take a LOT of money with you
There’s no rush to get to the City of Angels (believe me, it’s not going anywhere), and when you get there you’ll need to have some substantial money behind you. Spend a few months (or even years) saving and keep cutting costs where you can prior to the move. Click here for a reasonable yet reliable moving company in California. It will take a while (a few months maybe) for you to start getting work as an actor, and you need time to put the infrastructure in place so that you have the opportunities you need.  Finding a place to live as well as paying for acting classes, headshots and courting agents should be your first port of call, and you can’t do these things if you’re spending all of your time working in a restaurant to pay the high LA rent. It’s a good idea to save at least $5,000-$10,000 before the move.

It’s a good idea to have a secondary trade
One cliche that’s so true is that when you get to LA everyone’s an actor. Every barista, every waiter and every bartender is an actor. The trouble with these low paid jobs is that one has to work so many hours to get by that it leaves very little time for acting. If you have a secondary trade or skill behind you, not only will it enrich your acting, it’ll ensure that you have a better work / life balance in LA.

Become part of a community
You can’t take the whole LA scene on by yourself, and you’ll go crazy if you try. One of the best ways to start out is to join a community with other actors in your local area. This will allow you to learn from your peers’ shared experiences, trade audition tips and get a feel for who’s who on the local scene.

Get as much professional support as you can
It’s not enough to just have an agent. To stand a chance of making it in LA, it also helps to have a professional support team including an audition coach, a stylist and someone who can help you to find your niche and create a brand for yourself.

If you have been thinking about a career change for a while, you might be thinking about building on the caring side of your personality, and enroll on a healthcare related course. To make sure that you are prepared for the challenges and the hard work, we have created a list of what you need to know before you make up your mind.

Management Skills are Essential

In healthcare, you will need to have a strongleadership skill, hence most colleges teach different theories of management throughout the semesters. You need to manage patient information, resources, deal with emergencies every day, and plan important improvements to better the health outcomes. Due to the increased pressure on hospitals and health care providers, you have to be a good communicator and problem solver.
You Need to Improve Your Cultural Awareness
If you work in healthcare, you will come across with people from different walks of life and cultural backgrounds. You need to understand their concerns and beliefs to address their problems and communicate with them effectively. Read as much as you can about different cultures, and - if you haven’t yet - enrol on a course that teaches you how to handle diversity and treat patients from different backgrounds.
You Can Volunteering First to See if the Job Suits You
While you might think thatworking in a hospital or a dental clinic is your perfect career, you  cannot be sure. To save yourself time and money, you might consider volunteering to gain experience and understand what each role entails. This way, you can make an informed decision about your career change.
You Must Check the Accreditation Requirements
It is important that you know how many courses you need to take and complete before you can get your dream position in healthcare. If you are unsure, you can always talk to a career advisor who will tell you about the different courses, qualifications, enrollment options, andbls certification requirements of your future role. If you already have a workplace in mind, you can contact their HR department directly for advice.
Some Employers Pay for Your Training
In case you already have a degree related to management or healthcare, you might be able to apply for a role in a hospital and the employer would pay for your furtheracademic qualifications that will land you in your dream position. Ask your future employers whether or not they offer funding for your studies. While you might need to commit working for the company for a few years, it might be worth it knowing that you will not start your new career in debt.
Before you jump head first into changing your career, you need to know that healthcare is for you. Ask loads of questions, visit hospitals, or even volunteer a few months, so you don’t end up spending months or years of life learning skills you will never use. Get in touch with human resources departments and visit your future workplace to fully understand what your future job entails.

Smart Tips to Help Style Your Outfit With Jewellery

Picking out an outfit is incredibly fun, especially if you’re just doing it casually because you want to feel confident when you head out. It’s important to focus on your own personal style when indulging in fashion. It’s a lot better than following the herd of celebrity-chasing fashionistas that won’t try something new, and the best way to add style and personality to your outfit is to accessorize. To help you out, we’ve put together some smart tips to help you style your outfit with jewellery.
Be Inspired
The best way to get new ideas is to look for inspiration. Whether it’s on a website like Pinterest or through fashion magazines, look for ideas that can inspire you to create our own style.
Variations Are Great
Don’t buy the same ring five times and then put them on five different fingers. Mix up your jewellery by changing patterns and styles to create a unique look to your outfit.
Show it Off
It’s pointless wearing jewellery if you aren’t going to show it off. Don’t hide rings until sleeves, don’t hide necklaces under your shirt and don’t hide earrings with your hair. If you’re going to wear jewellery, wear it with pride and show it off!
Add Layers
Whether it’s necklaces, bracelets or even rings, layer up! This works great with thinner pieces of jewellery like small bangles but you can create a unique layered look with virtually anything. If you want to try layer some gold chains, then take a look at this helpful graphic to help you decide what you can layer.

Pup Essentials; How To Prepare For A New Family Member

0
0
With so many choosing to bring their new puppy home over the festive period; you’ve probably been tempted to do the same. There’s nothing quite like the memory of the scene in Lady and the Tramp when the new puppy pops out of the box on Christmas morning. However, life can be somewhat different from Disney movies, and you’ll have plenty to prepare for if you are planning a puppy’s arrival. Aside from some sleepless nights ahead; there are an array of things to invest in and prepare the family for in advance of them getting to you. Therefore, it’s worth writing a thorough list and getting the whole family on board with the puppy plans (there’s strength on teamwork).

A new dog will bring you plenty of laughter and joy, but, just like kids; they have a tendency to wear you out and challenge you on multiple occasions when they’re young. If you’ve made up your mind that Christmas is the time where you add a new furry family member to your household; make sure you’re heading towards puppy parenthood and becoming a perfect pet owner with your eyes wide open and full of as much knowledge as possible. The following are some tips, ideas, and advice for future pup owners and how to settle them into your house with all the essentials.

Somewhere To Sleep
Puppies are hyperactive one minute and fast asleep the next; this will give you a perfect chance to pop them in a dog bed or crate so that they learn where their den is, and enjoy going there in the future for some time out. Check out places like Pet Crates Direct so that you can choose an environment that’s suitable for your pup’s size. Filling their space with soft bedding; cushions and blankets will create a cosy place for them to drift off, and training them to sleep away from you should become easier with time. They’ll be some crying during the night at first, and you’ll need to be able to wash their sheets after any accidents, but their bed will soon become one of their favorite parts of the home.

Training Treats
Treats that have been made with puppies in mind are an effective way to reward them for great behavior and teach the skills needed to be a good dog. Therefore, it’s worth stocking up so that you can begin the training process as soon as they arrive in your home.

Cleaning Equipment
Pups won’t know where to go to the toilet at first; that will come with time and patience, and dedication to their ongoing training. Therefore, they’re likely to have accidents, quite often, when they are little, so you’ll need plenty of cleaning supplies and the means to remove any odours. Dogs will return to certain areas and do the same if you don’t remove the scent from the last time, so look into products aimed at getting rid of the smell altogether, and ones that encourage your dog to go elsewhere, or outside.

Not Heading to College? 4 Ways to Succeed without a College Degree

0
0
What do some of the most famous people in the world, like Oprah and Mark Zuckerberg, have in common? They don’t have a formal college education under their belt. That isn’t to say that not finishing college is going to be an easy ride, but it is a path for some of the most successful people that we know. The job market is slowly improving at the moment, but graduates are still struggling to find a job in the job they are qualified for. So what other options are there. College isn’t going to be for everyone. So here are some ways what you can still achieve and get a career that you want.

Explore Other Learning Avenues
There are other ways to learn and get qualified in something that you want to do, if you have decided not to pursue college. What are those things, though? You could pursue a career in fitness, for example, without having to go to college. There are different personal training and fitness qualifications that you can do that do not need you to have had a college degree. Certain medical careers like nursing can be done on the job. Some RN courses can be done through hospitals and done that way. You can always look for RN to BSN degrees later in your career if you wanted to develop further. But at the end of the day, they can be done without having to go to college. So for flexibility, something like that might be an option for you.

Gain Experience
The more experience that you have of something, whether paid or unpaid, is going to help your chances for getting on the career ladder going forward. So look to get as much experience of things as you can. No matter what knowledge you have, what experience you have on paper is going to be the thing to help you to get the interview. From there you can wow them with your passion for the career. But the experience is the thing to help you get through the door.

Learn Skills That Are in Demand
Getting a formal degree doesn’t qualify you to do any old things. It may increases your chances, but nothing is guaranteed. Which is why if you’re not going own the college route, you need to think about developing a wide range of soft skills that can be used in a variety of roles. A positive attitude, dependability, reliability, and a strong work ethic are all skills to have. Work on them, hone them, and look for ways to demonstrate these things so that you can show them off when it comes to an interview.

Read!
Having a knowledge of a certain sector or staying ahead of the game with current affairs can be really desirable in many career paths. Read up on industry blogs and journals, as well as books, and magazines. You could even look at doing even classes or online courses to be specific with your knowledge. The more you read, the more interesting and interested, you will become.
