What do some of the most famous people in the world, like Oprah and Mark Zuckerberg, have in common? They don’t have a formal college education under their belt. That isn’t to say that not finishing college is going to be an easy ride, but it is a path for some of the most successful people that we know. The job market is slowly improving at the moment, but graduates are still struggling to find a job in the job they are qualified for. So what other options are there. College isn’t going to be for everyone. So here are some ways what you can still achieve and get a career that you want.

Explore Other Learning Avenues
There are other ways to learn and get qualified in something that you want to do, if you have decided not to pursue college. What are those things, though? You could pursue a career in fitness, for example, without having to go to college. There are different personal training and fitness qualifications that you can do that do not need you to have had a college degree. Certain medical careers like nursing can be done on the job. Some RN courses can be done through hospitals and done that way. You can always look for RN to BSN degrees later in your career if you wanted to develop further. But at the end of the day, they can be done without having to go to college. So for flexibility, something like that might be an option for you.

Gain Experience
The more experience that you have of something, whether paid or unpaid, is going to help your chances for getting on the career ladder going forward. So look to get as much experience of things as you can. No matter what knowledge you have, what experience you have on paper is going to be the thing to help you to get the interview. From there you can wow them with your passion for the career. But the experience is the thing to help you get through the door.

Learn Skills That Are in Demand
Getting a formal degree doesn’t qualify you to do any old things. It may increases your chances, but nothing is guaranteed. Which is why if you’re not going own the college route, you need to think about developing a wide range of soft skills that can be used in a variety of roles. A positive attitude, dependability, reliability, and a strong work ethic are all skills to have. Work on them, hone them, and look for ways to demonstrate these things so that you can show them off when it comes to an interview.

Read!
Having a knowledge of a certain sector or staying ahead of the game with current affairs can be really desirable in many career paths. Read up on industry blogs and journals, as well as books, and magazines. You could even look at doing even classes or online courses to be specific with your knowledge. The more you read, the more interesting and interested, you will become.
